Tri-Luma is an approved treatment for melasma, made up of
three active ingredients, which make it unique and more effective than any
other treatments available for melasma. The triple combination therapy is
perfect for short term use to reduce the appearance of dark spots associated
with moderate to severe facial melasma. It takes eight weeks to see a
noticeable improvement in the appearance of dark spots and patches. Triluma
contains fluocinolone acetonide, hydroquinone and tretinoin cream for topical
application. Applying a thin layer to the disaffected area once daily can cause
a significant reduction in melasma. Prefer applying thirty minutes before
bedtimes to get the best results. Before applying the preparation, one need to
gently wash the face and neck with a mild cleanser and pat the skin dry. Apply
the triple combination therapy on hyperpigmented areas of melasma, and a pea-size the amount is enough to cover the affected and half an inch surrounded skin. Rub
the formulation lightly and uniformly into the skin. Treatment should
discontinue when control is achieved.
Use of sunscreen of SPF 30 along with wearing protective clothing is
must during Triluma therapy. Avoid sun exposure. Patients may use moisturizers
and other cosmetic products during the daytime when there is no medicine on
your face. The cream is for topical use
only, and it’s not for ophthalmic, oral or intravaginal use.
Possible Side Effects of Tri-luma
Common side effects of tri-luma cream include swelling or peeling of
your skin, dryness, itching, tingling, stinging, rashes, acne, skin bumps, or
blisters. The topical formulation may interact with diuretics, sulfa drugs,
antibiotics, birth control pills, phenothiazines, or hormone replacement
therapy. Inform your dermatologist about all the medications that you have been
using during Triluma treatment. The triple combination is not recommended for
use during pregnancy. Tretinoin present in the formulation can cause harm to
the developing baby. It is still not
known whether the topical formulation passes into breast milk. Therefore, it is
important to consult a health care specialist before breastfeeding. Get
emergency medical attention if you develop signs of allergic reactions,
including difficulty breathing, severe itching, hives, and swelling of lips,
throat, or tongue. Discontinue the treatment and call your dermatologist if you
develop darkening of the treated skin, irritation of eyes, nose, or mouth,
severe skin redness, severe burning or peeling of the skin. The commonly reported side effects of tri luma include acne, burning, itching, dryness, mild redness, or peeling of your skin.
You may or may not experience these side effects. In case any
of the above-explained side effects persist or troubles you, immediately call
your dermatologist and seek advice.
